Just 100 metres from the iconic Bondi shoreline, this project delivered the complete strip-out and refurbishment of a 55-room, 158-bed hostel, rebranded to reflect a new era of community-driven, design-led accommodation.
The works encompassed structural modifications to improve spatial flow, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and the creation of 23 Beachside Loft Rooms featuring custom-designed raised beds and integrated storage. Existing rooms were refurbished into contemporary private and dormitory accommodation with bespoke bunks, personal lighting, and secure storage.
Communal spaces were reimagined to foster connection, including a private guest courtyard, shared kitchen, co-working hub, and movie room. Interiors drew inspiration from the coastal setting, with a fresh “Bondi blue” palette, wavy full-length mirrors, and curated local photography. Artistic details included a large mermaid mural and creative wayfinding by Wollongong artist Bodie Jarman.
Delivered within a tight three-month programme, the refurbishment was carefully staged to minimise disruption to the surrounding community. The outcome is a modern, guest-focused hostel that balances affordability with comfort and style—setting a new benchmark for design-led accommodation in Sydney.
