Set in the heart of Byron Bay, the Drifters redevelopment involved a full transformation of an existing hostel into a modern coastal retreat designed for the new generation of travellers. The project focused on reimagining both private and communal spaces while upgrading critical infrastructure to meet contemporary operational standards.
The works began with an extensive strip-out, including the removal of outdated ceilings, floor finishes, and internal partitions to create open, reconfigurable zones. Structural adjustments were carried out to accommodate improved ventilation, upgraded bathroom layouts, and revised circulation throughout guest rooms and amenities.
A full refurbishment program included new tiling and waterproofing across bathrooms, custom vinyl installations to common areas, and repainting of all interiors to align with the hostel’s fresh brand identity. High-spec joinery was introduced throughout dorms, loft rooms, and communal kitchens, alongside upgraded PC items, toilet partitions, and hydraulic services to ensure durability under high occupancy.
Delivered under tight staging and budget control, the project breathes new life into Drifters Byron Bay—combining laid-back coastal atmosphere with elevated amenity, positioning it as one of the region’s most design-forward hostel destinations.
